About me
Hello, my name is Rebecca. I have been teaching for 15 years. I have experience working in both the state and independent sectors. In the most recent few years of my teaching career, I have worked as a SENDCo. In this role, I have gained a much deeper understanding of what children need to thrive.
One of my strengths as a teacher has always been knowing my learners: working out why children are finding learning hard and how they can be helped. I believe that building a strong trusting relationship with a child (and their parents/carers) is the first step to unravelling why they might be struggling and how best to give support. I strongly believe in planning exciting and engaging sessions as children need to be interested to learn. I like to work collaboratively with parents and carers.
I have a law degree as well as a PGCE. I have teaching experience within Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. In 2018, I was awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia (SpLD/Dyslexia) and I am an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA). I keep abreast of current practices concerning specific learning difficulties and continually develop my understanding (through training and self-directed learning) around a range of issues that might impact on learning including sensory processing issues and neurodiversity.
I have an active enhanced DBS which enables me to work with children and young people. I hold professional indemnity insurance and I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
